Origin Legend
According to legend, in the late Ming Dynasty, Lu Zigang, a master of jade carving, created the Zigang plaques. Among them, there was a jade plaque without any decorative patterns. Because the pronunciation of "without decoration" is the same as that of "without trouble" in Chinese, it got the name "Wushi plaque" (meaning "peaceful plaque"). This simple design embodied the concept that the greatest truths are the simplest, and was endowed by people with the beautiful meaning of peace and safety.
The Emperor's Blessing Theory
It is said that in ancient times, there was an emperor who, in order to pray for peace and the well-being of the people, ordered craftsmen to carve a batch of jadeite plaques and distribute them to civil and military officials as well as the common people. The words "Wushi" (meaning "peaceful") were engraved on these jadeite plaques, symbolizing peace and living and working in peace and contentment. Since then, the Wushi plaque has become a symbol with auspicious meanings, representing blessings for peace.
The Legend of the General's Protection
In the late Eastern Han Dynasty, there was a general named Wang Tong who was both intelligent and brave and was extremely good at fighting. During a battle, he was seriously injured. When he woke up from a coma, he found himself in a beautiful and mysterious fairyland. In front of him was a strange jadeite tree that emitted a magical aura. When he reached out to touch the leaves of the tree, suddenly a powerful force poured into his body, and his injuries were miraculously healed. Out of gratitude, Wang Tong engraved his name on a piece of jadeite and carried it with him. Since then, he and his troops were invincible in battles and remained safe. After this legend spread, people began to study and make jadeite peace plaques and wore them as protective items.
The Lucky Charm of the Tiler
It is said that during the Han Dynasty, there was a tiler who picked up a peace plaque when washing his hands by the river and then wore it on his waist. One day, when he was repairing roof tiles on the roof, he accidentally fell down, but he was completely unharmed. However, the peace plaque was broken.
